I've been averaging two to three drawing sessions a week for the past month or so. Great exercise but the pages have been filling up and I have not been taking the time to scan and upload. What follows is the first part of what I have been up to for the last month or so (in no real particular order).
Alessandra modeled for the group at Laumeier Sculpture Park. Beautiful day but I had taken Jackson along. As he just wanted to play I did not get much drawing done.

Fridays generally mean Fabulous Fridays in the Central West End. The Rockabilly Kids, Chad and Stephanie, invite people to hang out outside of West End Galleries and draw. Stephanie models. The weather has been great for it and there is usually live music and even the occaisional fire dancer or two.
Stephanie has a flair for costumes and a good time is had by all.
A new regular spot these days is Mojo Studios at the Concrete Ocean Art Gallery. Recently, Alessandra posed in a tribute to Bettie Page.

A bit of a twist to the latest sketch session. This one was held at the Calvary Cemetary in STL. Great place and Alessandra was, as always, a great model.
As much as I love live nude models, I have actually been hoping to get some interesting clothing in the mix. Alessandra delivered in spades.
To that end, I focused less on lighting and shading and more on texture and form. All in all, I believe the sketch gods are pleased.

Ditched out on the Artist's Guild in favor of a different group this week. Three models, plenty of wine and background music. Much more laid back than the Guild. Better models too.
Really diggin' on the new technique. Definitely getting more confident working with a pen alone. Feelin' pretty good about the end results.
I tend to lose interest once I can see the end result in my mind. Wish I would have spent more time on the hands with this one.
Sketch night at the Guild: $6. Sketch night with fitness models: $10. I guess you get what you pay for.

Another week, another trip to the Artist's Guild. Another male model. Keen observers will note that this is the same model as in my first post about drawing wieners. Perhaps the local nude model pool is rather shallow.
I found that the key to not drawing dongs is simply that: don't draw the dong. Pick something else to focus on.
I have decided to use these sessions to develop other skills I have ignored in the past. This time out I went with pen only. No rough pencil sketch, no blue pencil.
I attempted various line weights and shading techniques (is that an attempt at cross hatching?). Some of it worked, some of it didn't. All in all I was pleased.
More figure drawing, now with less dongs.

I maintain that the conflict breeds creativity. As an artist, the troubled relationship with the muse is essential to the process. Or so I have stated in the past. Why then is there no new post in two weeks? Perhaps I should just stick to writing for a bit. This is a BLOG after all. Dirty, four letter word. Perhaps I should just quit wallowing and get back to work.
This is why I do not write very much on here.

I get together with a group of artists from time to time. These events feature wine, good conversation and live models.
Usually, there is only one model but this time there were three. While I go for the experience, I'll be the first to admit that I prefer the young ladies as models.
So I tried to avoid the man-meat for most of the night. By the last session, I had had enough to drink that I figured "what the hell?" I'm an artist, right? Into every life a little penis must fall.
So I girded my own loins and, with pencil grasped firmly in hand, committed the member to paper... flanked by the nymphs of course. That which does not kill us makes us harder, er, stronger.
